Awesome is ‘Dropping your mobile phone on the footpath and then realising it’s totally fine.’

Romans 10:1-21

Reference: v.9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (TNIV Bible)

Explore: I was recently speaking to the Canadian author Neil Pasricha.  He wrote ‘The Book of (Even More) Awesome” which mentions in short little chapters the awesome things that happen in life.  It came from a time when Neil was going through a particularly difficult situation.  Instead of wallowing in his pain he decided to think of something awesome that happened every day.  They didn’t have to be massive things, but just small delights like ‘When two biscuits melt together in the oven’ or ‘Getting through right away when you call a big company’ or ‘That one person who laughs when you tell a really bad joke’ or ‘Picking the fastest moving line at the supermarket checkout’. AWESOME.  Neil found that when he proclaimed the positive things in his life then the challenging situations didn’t seem so bad.

Application: While we all have awesome things that happen to us throughout the day, there is nothing more awesome in our lives than being saved through Christ.  This is so EXTRAORDINARILY AWESOME that we should be declaring it every day of our lives.  In fact, Romans 10:9 says that declaring our faith in Jesus is an important step in our salvation.  We may acknowledge Him in our hearts, but we need to declare Him with our lips.  If we do this everyday – even on those days when everything seems to be going wrong – then we will be reminded of how awesome our God really is.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for all the AWESOME things in our lives.  Thank you that You are the most awesome of all and you are willing to be a part of our lives.  Amen.

What is something awesome in your life?
