While the $2 is double the value, it is only half as big.
Reference: Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him. (2 Chronicles 32:7 NIV)
Explore: In Australia we have a $1 and $2 coin. They are our only gold coins and they hold the highest values out of all the coins.
The strange thing about these two coins is that the $1 coin is actually larger in size than the $2. While the $2 is double the value, it is only half as big.
It’s incredibly confusing for foreigners using our currency and does not seem to work logically. I’ve never heard the reasoning behind the size difference, however, it just goes to show that value is not always based on size.
Application: So often we place value on quantity rather than quality. Bigger is better is the cry of our generation.
Our currency, however, is just one example of when bigger is not always better.
King Hezekiah was faithful to God but was coming under some intense pressure from his enemies. When you can see thousands upon thousands of the enemy on your doorstep it would be hard not to feel overwhelmed. However, Hezekiah calls for courage.
No matter what your size, your heritage or your current wage, it is the power within us that makes the difference. And God’s power can live in each of us if we allow Him to.
Let’s not shy away from battles, but stand firm on the grounds of our convictions that come from the greatest power in the universe, our Lord.
Prayer: Lord, give us strength when we feel weak, courage in our despair, and love in our calling. Amen.
What is the Lord, who is within you, calling you to?
