At The Right Time

They are just a simple Aussie girl’s reflection on where she sees God in her everyday

Acts 16:6-15

Reference: One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth. She was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message. (Acts 16:14 NIV)

Explore: At the time of writing this particular post I will have written over 1500 devotions. These bible reflections have ranged from the Old Testament to the New,  from personal analogies to other people’s stories, from humorous to heartfelt.

I write them for my own spiritual reflection and I post them publicly so other people may experience how real God is in our every day. Every now and again a reader will send me a note to let me know how the devotions have impacted their lives.

Just last week I received an email that said, “I have only been receiving your devotions for a few days, but yesterday and today fitted right into a situation that came up after I read your message.” Time and time again people have written to tell me how timely my devotion has been for them.

Out of the thousands of people who receive my devotions, I only know a couple. But I am constantly amazed at how God uses my words to speak to other people.

You’re reading these words now. You can see they are not typed in gold or written in great prose. They are just a simple Aussie girl’s reflection on where she sees God in her everyday.

Application: This is where I am reminded of the incredible God we serve. He is able to take the simple things in our world to point us towards Him.

God has been doing this for years. Paul and Silas were heading to a place of prayer. On their way they sat and started talking to some women.

God connected with one of those women, Lydia, in such a powerful way that her whole household was baptised and she opened her home to accommodate the disciples. There were numerous women present, but God spoke to Lydia through the words of the Apostle Paul.

You don’t have to be the greatest missionary or the most knowledgable theologian for God to speak through you. If you are faithful and open to how God has impacted your life, then you can guarantee it will bring meaning and reflection to someone else who has gone through a similar situation.

Let’s not lock our faith stories up, but share our experience so that God can continue to connect to His people. There’s no greater purpose our lives can have than to be a vessel of God’s word to another.

Prayer: Lord, make me a vessel of Your love, grace and mercy. May the words I speak bring people into a greater relationship with You. Amen.

What story of faith have you experienced?
