At The Hospital

When I saw those first three words I got SO excited

Isaiah 34:1-17

Reference: v.1 Come near, you nations, and listen; pay attention, you peoples!
Let the earth hear, and all that is in it, the world and all that comes out of it! (TNIV Bible)

Explore: I am currently waiting to hear from my best friend as to whether she has had a baby!

She is now eight days overdue and still waiting!

The other day she sent me a text message that started by saying:

At the hospital…

The message came up on my phone and when I saw those first three words I got SO excited. I grabbed my phone and opened the message only to discover the rest of her message read:

…for an appointment, just ran into your father-in-law.

No offence to my father-in-law, but this was not the exciting news I was anticipating! I was so disappointed that I sent her a firmly worded reply requesting that she not mention the word ‘hospital’ in another text message to me unless she has a baby in her arms to introduce to me!!

Application: It’s interesting how the same piece of news can mean different things at different times. Usually I would really like that my friend had bumped into a family member. However, when it’s compared to another person coming into this world, it pales in significance.

The prophets of the Old Testament had some pretty significant news to tell the world. Isaiah often brought news of doom, however, I guess that doom meant happy news for the opposing side!

God has a message for each one of us. To some it may be a word of warning, while to others it may be a word of encouragement. He never leads us astray – like my friend’s text message did!

He desires to communicate with us so that we can continue to be the best person He has created us to be.

Prayer: Lord, sometimes your message to us gets lost in translation. May we be open to what You have to speak into our lives and content with the stillness of Your voice. Amen.

What message do you feel God is giving you today?
