Around The World

From the rural areas of Kenya to the tourist district of Indonesia

Luke 3:21-38

Reference: When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened (‭Luke‬ ‭3‬:‭21‬ NIV)

Explore: I’ve visited a number of countries. From the rural areas of Kenya to the tourist district of Indonesia, it’s easy to notice the differences in other cultures.

We all talk differently, we eat different foods, and we live in different conditions.

However, when you really get to know a local person from another country, you start to realise there are some strong similarities too. We all enjoy eating together, we love to laugh and we all need to be a part of some kind of community.

While we may look, sound and smell different, we are all human.

Application: When I think about Jesus I often focus on His messianic position and I find hope in knowing I’ve dedicated my life to someone who displayed incredible miraculous abilities. And yet, God was clear in making Jesus human too, so He could be the ultimate guide for us.

Jesus’ baptism was a sacred moment in the gospels but I like how the writer of Luke puts this spiritual moment in the context of being very human. “All the people were being baptised, Jesus was too.”

When you feel disconnected from God, remember that He became human too. He has walked your path and has better understanding of who you are and what you’re going through than anyone else.

God doesn’t live in another culture, He has made His home right in your neighbourhood.

Prayer: Lord, help me to find You in my world today. Show me glimpses of Your understanding. Amen.

What are the similarities between you and Jesus?
