Are You Human?

Their response to me took me by surprise.

2 Kings 4:1-44

Reference: “Elisha turned away and walked back and forth in the room and then got on the bed and stretched out on him once more. The boy sneezed seven times and opened his eyes.” ‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭4:35‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Explore: After three years our foster boys moved to another home. Our lovely neighbours had seen the challenges we had gone through as a family, and so, they were one of the first people we told.

Their response to me took me by surprise. They said, “At least now we know you’re human.”

When I first thought about this I was disappointed in myself. Caring for these boys had been a great example to our neighbours of what it was to follow Jesus. And by the boys moving house I felt like I’d become like anyone else on the street.

But I have now realised I was being too hard on myself. My neighbours (who don’t currently attend church) were affirming our incredible efforts of enduring our challenges for so long and understanding our decision for things to change.

Application: Elisha was an incredible follower of God and you could easily see this by looking at his life. Not only did he set himself apart for the work of God, but he was able to do some remarkable things in His name.

We are called to live differently. And the beauty of being different is that you can do this in any walk of life you choose.

It’s not just for the ministers or the preachers to stand out for Jesus, but for every single follower to use their individual gifts and abilities to give God praise. That will set you apart.

While most people are living for themselves, as soon as you start to live for God by loving others, your life will stand out.

Prayer: Lord God, You have given each of us different gifts and abilities. May we use our position and our attributes to bring You glory. Amen.

How will you stand out for God today?
