My mother inherited a beautiful place setting from her own mother whom had inherited it from my great grandmother.
It is so special that we only got it out at Christmas time. The plates and dishes have a beautiful pattern with gold trimmings and we are always careful when we carry it.
After our Christmas meal, the setting is carefully cleaned, wrapped up and then placed back in the cupboard until next Christmas.
It’s nice having special things for special occasions but it always seems sad when we put the beautiful setting back into the cupboard, as it makes it feel like Christmas is really over.
Thankfully, the real meaning of Christmas does not end after the festive meal or once everything is packed away. God’s gift of love is remembered at Christmas time but we can have access to God and his love 365 days of the year.
Jesus is not just someone special whom we bring out at Christmas or only on Sundays. Jesus is there for us every moment of every day.
