Ambassadors For God

What a huge responsibility to be a representative of God.  That’s like you are an ambassador for the embassy of Heaven!!

1 Kings 15.33-16.14

Reference:  v.7a  Moreover, the word of the Lord came through the prophet Jehu son of Hanani to Baasha and his house, because of all the evil he had done in the eyes of the Lord…

Explore:  I guess it’s no surprise that in a book entitled ‘1 Kings’ we are going to hear about a lot of kings!! I’m almost at the point of needing to create a flow chart as we journey along the reign of kings of Israel and Judah.  (Thankfully someone has already done that.  Here is a simple timeline of the kings we are currently looking at.  Here is a more extensive list of all the kings from Saul.)  But as we read and hear about all the different kings and how more were against God than for him, it is easy to wonder where God is in this time.  But if you look closely enough, in every chapter you see a representative of God speaking out for the Lord.  God did not leave his people, He brough prophets into this time to be the voice of God in a desperate place.

Application:  What a huge responsibility to be a representative of God.  That’s like you are an ambassador for the embassy of Heaven!!  And yet, I don’t think that prophets only existed in the BC years.  I think there are prophets in our own world today.  People that have a message that helps people to turn to God.  If we are active followers of Jesus then I guess that makes us all prophets.  We all have a call on our lives to ‘go and make disciples…teaching them to obey everything I (Jesus) have commanded you’ Matt 28.19-20.  Maybe if we viewed ourselves as official ambassadors for God then we would see that, no matter what we do or where we go, we are representatives of God.

Prayer:   Lord, you have chosen each one of us to represent you here on earth.  Fill us with your presence so we can effectively work for you today.  Amen.

As an ambassador for the embassy of Heaven, what is your message to the world?
