It's not always the final accomplishment that makes someone great.
Mark 15:1-47
Reference: v.39 And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, heard his cry and saw how he died, he said, "Surely this man was the Son of God!" (NIV Bible)
Explore: We often hear when great people do great things. Amazing accomplishments bring the media into a stir and whether it's on the radio, TV or in the newspaper we are able to hear about significant achievements that someone has done. Whether someone has made it to the top of the music charts or another has hit 100 runs in cricket or maybe another has brought us a step closer to finding the cure for cancer, there is often someone close by to report on it. However, it's not always the final accomplishment that makes someone great. The great achievement is that they were truly committed to their task, they stayed the course and worked hard to get to the end. Those are the things that are not broadcast but truly make someone great.
Application: Jesus made some huge accomplishments while he walked on earth. He healed the sick, he taught large crowds and he performed many miracles. And yet, even in his death he made a huge impression on those around him. It was how Jesus lived in the everyday that impacted lives, not just the grand gestures that drew the crowds to him. When the centurion saw how Jesus died it was then that he realised he must be the Son of God. Jesus lived such a life of integrity that even in his dying moments he showed his Godliness. It's not just in our great accomplishments that Jesus shows us to be great, it is in every suffering and celebration that we are to be like Him.
Prayer: Lord, we often only look to the final result. And yet it is in the small things in life that we can show our true heart. Help us to have integrity, even in the small things. Amen.
Who do you know who is diligent in the small things?
