For years and years she had tried to impress him
Reference: “How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?” John 5:44 NIV
Explore: A friend of mine found herself in her thirties without purpose and direction. Her whole life she had made choices to please her father, when the only one her father saw favour in was her older brother.
For years and years she had tried to impress him and seek his attention but over and over he had looked the other way. When she finally realised nothing was going to change she found herself in a job she didn’t love and a future that didn’t bring her hope.
Application: Not all of us are so focussed on seeking attention from just one person however we’ve all fallen into the trap of putting someone else’s opinion before God’s.
I pride myself on following God’s example but there are still times that I have let other people’s opinions and peer pressure guide my thoughts and my decisions. There are many wise and Godly people who give good advice but our aim should always be to seek the guidance in partnership with communicating with God.
When Jesus roamed the earth He gave us great leadership on how we should live. He was very clear as to who we should be listening to and following.
God has given us so many opportunities to know His plan and His call. It up to us to listen to Him rather than the other voices who try to crowd our hearing.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, may I take your leading and stay focussed on God in all that I do. Amen.
How can you stay connected to God’s purpose?
