Action Hero

When all is said and done, actions speak the loudest.

1 Timothy 5:17-25

Reference: In the same way, good deeds are obvious, and even those that are not obvious cannot remain hidden forever. (1 Timothy 5:25 NIV)

Explore: A great deal has happened in our family lately, the most significant being two new babies. My sister had her first child just a couple of months ago, and three days later my foster daughter, who lives with us, had her first child too.

There’s nothing so incredibly awe-inspiring than holding a new born baby in your arms. However, there’s also nothing more terrifying than thinking you have to help this baby grow and you have no idea how to do that!

A couple of weeks after these little cherubs were born, my mother came to stay in Melbourne to help out. For a whole fortnight she just travelled constantly from one house to the other folding washing, making meals, doing the gardening, folding more washing and just helping in anyway she could.

Having brought up three incredible babies for her own (hehe) she had some wise words to share. However, as her babies are now in their 30s, she was also open to hearing new ways of doing things.

Now that Mum has returned home we keep in contact through chatting on the phone and texting through photos, but having mum see us through those first couple of crazy weeks was incredible.

Application: There are many wise words my mother has shared with me over the years, but it is her sacrificial service that continues to impress on me. When all is said and done, actions speak the loudest.

The Bible is filled with even more wisdom than my mother holds, but it also speaks constantly of DOING good. Story after story, verse after verse, the Bible does more to instruct our actions than to guide what we say.

In our world of social media and fast communications we can tell the world anything and everything. But let’s not forget that it’s our actions that will actually change the world.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, Your actions changed the world 2000 years ago and continue to change us today. May we look to Your life and strive to change the world in the same way. Amen.

What’s the most powerful action you’ve witnessed?
