These two moulds were incredibly similar.
Reference: ““Though Ephraim built many altars for sin offerings, these have become altars for sinning.” Hosea 8:11 NIV
Explore: I recently heard a story about two different types of mould… stay with me! These two moulds are incredibly similar. In fact, they only have 22 different genetic markers.
Their impact, however, is vastly different.
While one mould is used in the production of soy sauce – a yummy sauce to enhance Asian cooking – the other mould is so lethal it can kill a grown person.
Thankfully, it was discovered that the soy sauce mould can never turn into the lethal mould. I found it interesting, though, that something so similar could have such different outcomes.
Application: I feel this is true with some parts of our lives too.
Take words for instance. The same words used to build up and support can be said in a sarcastic way to tear down and destroy.
The money we earn is another example. It can be used to support ourselves and even others or it can be wasted on frivolous activities that undermine our future.
In Hosea we hear of Ephraim building places of worship for God but then turning them into a place of heinous activity.
Our lives can be the same. We have the opportunity to use them to build people up or to waste it away. How are you going to live today?
Prayer: Lord, may we use all the resources You have given us to bring glory and not destruction. Amen.
How are you using your life?
