A Summer Fruit Basket

From apricots to mangos, cherries to pineapples, the fruit basket brought colour and delight to our home.

Isaiah 27:1-13

Reference: v.6 In days to come Jacob will take root,
Israel will bud and blossom
and fill all the world with fruit. (TNIV Bible)

Explore: Christmas has always been a special time for our family. Not only is it the time to remember our Saviour’s birth, but also as a family we created so many special traditions around this time.

One of the special gifts I remember that my parent’s received was a huge basket of fruit from a close family friend. Although we were given the same present every single year, we always looked forward to the bounty that would be held within.

Being in Australia the fruit basket was filled with all our wonderful Summer fruits. From apricots to mangos, cherries to pineapples, the fruit basket brought colour and delight to our home.

Application: While fruit may not be as desirable as a cake or a cheese platter, I find that a healthy bowl of colourful fruit brings great pleasure. We have learned that the aesthetic quality of food adds to the eating experience and a good looking piece of fruit can satisfy any person.

It’s this vision of fruit that I thought about when I read about Israel blossoming and filling the world with fruit. I realize that this probably refers to his offspring rather than his green grocery delivery, but I liked the image that this conjured up.

In a way we all have the ability to blossom and fill the earth with our fruit. It may not be offspring, but it might be our words, our actions, our lasting legacy.

If we are diligent in sharing God’s message of grace and love to our world then it will be even better than a fresh basket of fruit delivered straight to your door.

Prayer: Lord, there are many ways we can be fruitful with our lives. May we work at sharing your fruitfulness with the whole world. Amen.

What kind of fruit are you filling the world with?
