A Recommendation For God

If you don't know much about the book or the author then you are able to get a recommendation from someone you may have previously heard of.

Job 36:1-33

Reference:  v.24  Remember to extol his work, which people have praised in song. (NIV Bible)

Explore:  If you look at the back of a book you will often find that the publisher has added some quotes from other well-known people or publications.  A book on health may have a comment from a respected doctor, a Christian book may have a quote from a successful pastor and a biography may have a reference from someone famous in their particular field.  If you don't know much about the book or the author then you are able to get a recommendation from someone you may have previously heard of.  There is a saying around Christian circles that ‘You may be the only Bible someone ever reads'.  This means that a lot of people will never actually pick up the Bible and read about God and so you can live your life so that people can get an understanding of God just by watching you.  In other words, you are the recommendation on the back of the ‘book'.

Application:  If that is the case then we need to acknowledge God in what we do in our lives.  If people are looking at us as their God-recommendation then we need to be noting where God is at work in our lives.  It's no good for someone to write a recommendation on the back of a book that they haven't read.  In the same way, if people are looking to us as a Christian example then we need to be learning how to be the best example that we can.

Prayer:  Lord, thank you for loving us so much.  May we acknowledge you in our lives and point others towards you.  Amen.

How does your life speak out a recommendation of God?
