A Meal For One

There is no fancy baking techniques, no new recipes explored, and no gourmet aromas flowing from my kitchen.

Exodus 27:1-21

Reference: v.8 Make the altar hollow, out of boards. It is to be made just as you were shown on the mountain. (TNIV Bible)

Explore: Every Monday night my husband teaches a class in the evening. This means that I have Monday night to myself and am able to have whatever I would like for dinner.  While every one of my favourite recipes lies before me, there is very little variety in what I cook.

In fact, my meal on Monday night is usually very quick and simple.  There is no fancy baking techniques, no new recipes explored, and no gourmet aromas flowing from my kitchen.  When I cook for myself I usually go very basic.

When I am cooking for my whole family or if we have guests over for dinner, I will always put on my cooking best. The recipe books will come out, the internet cooking sites will be surfed and my aim is to create a taste sensation.

Application: As I was reading through the instructions to the Israelites on how to build the Ark – the place that God was to reside for them – I realised the great importance this construction held.

Building the Ark was not like me cooking for myself on a Monday night. It wasn’t just a matter of slapping a few things together to make do. No, building something for God would have been the highest importance.  Just like special guests coming over for tea, you would want to make sure your craftsmanship for God was as perfect as can be.

Sometimes we can get sloppy with our workmanship when we think that it isn’t important. And yet everything we do, we do for God, therefore everything should be done to the best of our ability. Whether you are changing nappies, teaching a class, leading a church or attending a meeting, to truly honour God means that we do all these things as if we were doing them for Him.

Prayer: Lord God, we thank you that you never got sloppy with your workmanship. You have created all things beautifully. May we strive to have the same work ethic as you. Amen.

What is an area in your life that may be a bit sloppy?
