A MasterChef Dish

Explore: I realise I’m about 14 seasons behind the rest of the world, but I’ve just started watching MasterChef Australia! Usually with these reality TV shows I get sucked in by the interesting personalities, but with MasterChef I’m just loving watching them cook.

The dishes they serve up are like tasty works of art. The contestants are judged not just on how good their dishes taste, but how good they look and if they’ve used texture and creativity.

The other day one of them served up a seafood salad. As someone who does not like the taste of seafood I did not think this would impress me much. The colours and style of their plating up, however, was so magnificent that even I couldn’t refute their amazing dish.

Application: The dishes served up on this show are a far cry from the meat and three veggies that I serve up on a regular basis. It’s a good reminder to me that we can find beauty in so many different things.

While one person would see a fish salad as the perfect meal, another would appreciate the rich flavours of a ragout. And just as one person would see a sunny beach as a glorious location, another would appreciate the crisp white of freshly laid snow.

There is beauty all around us. The whole world sings of God’s creativity.

The Psalmist wrote of meadows covered with sheep and valleys of produce as a worship to God. I guess a farmer would understand the beauty of this more than anyone.

You may have other areas of expertise. No matter where we are this day, let’s look for God’s beauty calling out joy to Him. And let’s add our own beauty to the song of splendour to God.

Prayer: Lord, You are worthy of all the earth singing its glory to You. Amen.

What beauty do you see in the world today?
