A Hong Kong View

My friend has recently visited Hong Kong. She has been making us all incredibly jealous as she posted online all the photos from her incredible adventures.

Out of all of her fabulous experiences, one particular photo grabbed my attention. It was the view from Victoria Peak, on Hong Kong Island.

In this one photo she mentioned that the contrast was amazing. Not just east meets west but industrial meets nature and modern meets the old.

I think the reason it took my breath away was because I’m often trying to compartmentalise my life – family vs work, holiday vs business, friendship vs acquaintance. But it doesn’t always work that way. It’s like when we try to separate our faith from the rest of our life. It no longer becomes faith!

There are times when it’s important to see the differences but I think it’s becoming more important for me to be able to know how to balance it all in the one picture. I can’t just stop being a mum but, in fact, that can help me be a better employee at times too.

God doesn’t ask us to separate our lives but, in worshipping God, He becomes the consistent factor throughout every aspect of our lives. When we socialise, work, care, exercise, play… no matter what we do we can incorporate God and His love into all we do.

Lord, You bring our whole lives into balance. Help us to bring You into everything we do. Amen.

What aspects of your life are you balancing at the moment?
