A Desert Place

It felt like we had been driving for hours and yet the scenery had not changed.

Isaiah 13:1-22

Reference: v.20 She will never be inhabited
or lived in through all generations;
there no nomads will pitch their tents,
there no shepherds will rest their flocks. (TNIV Bible)

Explore: I haven’t spent a great deal of time in a desert, but I have vivid recollections of driving through one once.

We only drove through a small section of a desert, but the constant rolling sand dunes and the repetitive landscape was quite depressing. It felt like we had been driving for hours and yet the scenery had not changed.

And this was all from the inside of a comfortable car with the air conditioning on! I couldn’t imagine what it would be like to be walking through such a place, especially if you didn’t know when it was going to end.

Application: There are people who feel that their life is like walking through a desert. It’s dry and repetitive and they are not sure when there will ever be a reprieve.

This is what life can be like when we’re far away from God too. He is the true oasis in our world. Without Him our lives lack meaning and purpose.

Prayer: Lord God, you bring refreshment and substance into our lives. May we always draw close to You for fulfillment. Amen.

Where do you go to find refreshment for your soul?
