To say I am a morning person is probably an understatement!!
Reference: v.2 Lord , be gracious to us;
we long for you.
Be our strength every morning,
our salvation in time of distress. (TNIV Bible)
Explore: As soon as my alarm goes off in the morning my mind instantly starts working rapidly.
It only takes me a millisecond to remind myself what day it is and then all the events for that day click into place. By the time my feet have reached the floor I have a decent idea of how busy work will be, how much I have to do outside of work, and how many people I need to cook tea for at the end of the day.
To say I am a morning person is probably an understatement!!
By the time I have finished brushing my teeth and applying my make up, I have gone into the greater details of the day – who I’ll interact with, what food I’ll be consuming, how hard my day is likely to be, and how much down time I’ll be able to find. Sometimes my day has totally consumed me before I even leave the bathroom.
That’s why it’s good that it takes me half an hour to drive to work. When I’m in the car I can’t do any organizing, and so, it’s this time that I dedicate to God in prayer. It’s this time that helps me to get through the day that my mind has already planned out.
No matter what the day may hold it’s good to stop, dedicate it to God, and to remind myself that it’s through His strength that I will accomplish anything today.
Application: So often life can get so busy that we forget to stop and rely on God for His strength to get through the day. We may feel that we can be quite productive in our own strength, but if we really want lives that have an eternal impact, then we need to rely on God’s strength to get us through.
Prayer: Lord, we often forget to look to You for strength. Even in the small, routine events of our day we are able to do so much more with Your power behind us. May we put off our own agendas and rely purely on You today. Amen.
What do you need God’s strength for today?
