A Good Night

Last night I went to bed at 10 o’clock. Just as I was dozing off to sleep our four-year-old woke up from a nightmare. It took a little while to settle him but he soon went back to sleep.

At 1 o’clock our one-year-old woke up crying. I gave him a bottle and he soon went back to sleep.

At 2:30 our four-year-old wet his bed. As my husband changed his pyjamas I stripped his bed, got a dry doona out and remade his bed. Thankfully it did not take him long to go back to sleep.

At 4am our one-year-old woke again. I gave him a cuddle and a kiss and he soon went back to sleep.

At 6:30 he woke up ready to start the day.

If you look at all the wake ups and events that happened over the night you might think that we would be exhausted with what had happened. However this was one of the best nights we have had in quite some time.

You see our one-year-old has just gone through a phase where he will wake up but not want to go back to sleep. My husband and I have been taking turns in staying up with him or having him sleep on us while we are on the couch.

This was exhausting!

So a night where we are woken up but everyone settles fairly quickly is a good night! I guess it’s all perspective.

If we had been having a solid night’s sleep in the lead up to last night then it would have seemed like a terrible night. However, with the bad run of nights we have had lately, this was considered a good night.

While our circumstances can give us one perspective, we can allow ourselves to see things in a more positive light. Instead of looking at things negatively we can add a degree of positivity in anything we do.

Having a faith often helps us to view things more positively. We are fortunate to have the love and grace of the most powerful God in the whole world. This is a good place to begin!

While life can be challenging, and it’s totally okay to struggle, let us be reminded that there is a mighty, powerful, loving God who loves you at all times.

Lord, thank you for the good days. Help me to see through the bad days so that I can live positively for You. Amen.

What is something positive that has happened in your life recently?
