Walking through my bedroom the other day I came across two pairs of shoes. One was my husband’s the other was my 1-year old son’s. Their favourite pastime at the moment is rumbling on the bed so they had clearly taken off their shoes at some stage to do this. And here they were left behind.
My husband does have very big feet but next to my son’s little ones his shoes looked HUGE. I took a moment to take in the differing pairs of shoes. People tell me your children grow up so quickly. Would I soon be looking at two pairs of shoes the same size?!
Thankfully I feel this will take a little while, but it still made me think, one day my son will grow up and wear big shoes too. On the one hand I’m excited to see what he will be like. On the other hand, I’m sad I’m going to one day lose my little boy.
Growing up is inevitable. But how we grow is a choice.
We can grow up just looking out for ourselves. Or we can grow in such a way that we make the world a better place for other people around us.
I can’t choose everything for my son. All I can do is continue to grow in such a way that is an example of how I hope he will live too.
We have the ultimate example in Christ. He left big shoes to fill! But He didn’t leave us alone to fill them. He steps into our shoes every day with us, if we allow Him on our journey.
Lord, thank You for walking every step of the way with us. May we acknowledge You and continue to strive to keep in step with You. Amen.
How can you invite Jesus on the journey with you today?
