Learn To Move

Nine months ago I broke my ankle. I was up on the Gold Coast, was walking down some tiled steps in the rain and slipped. I had it pinned the next day and spent 6 weeks on crutches and not able to carry my 4 month old baby. Needless to say, this was not the highlight of my year!

After 6 weeks non-weight bearing and another 7 weeks in a moon boot I had to teach myself to walk all over again. I was hesitant at first, and with the ligament and nerve damage every movement felt weird. To start with my walking was clunky and awkward and I walked with a significant limp. Just moving my ankle was a challenge in itself. If I had have stayed walking like that the difference in the two sides of my legs would have put my whole body out of kilter.

So I had to teach my left leg to move in line with my right leg. And so, whenever things felt wrong in my left leg I would look to my right leg to see what it was doing. I’d then try to replicate that movement with my recovering ankle.

It took a while to move together but over time my movement has become more and more effective. As I start stretching myself into other activities, if I ever wonder if I’m doing it correctly, I just have to look to my right leg to realign my movement.

We are all broken and we all get out of alignment with our partner, our families, our work, our faith, our purpose. We need to stop and align ourselves with the One who knows how to live a good and fulfilling life.

If we want to move with purpose and vision and destiny, then we need to move in alignment with God. He is the one who will bring greater direction to our lives than anyone or anything else. Look to Him, copy His ways and the rest of your life will fall into a path of destiny and purpose.

Lord, You give us the ultimate direction. No matter who we are or where we live, we can follow You. You desire for us to live at our best in order to build Your kingdom here on earth. May we be obedient to Your call. Amen.

How well are you aligned to God?
