What To Expect

Welcome to the start of a brand new year. For some, you were happy to say good riddance to last year. For others you feel it was the end of an era. For some of you 1st Jan was just another day. But it’s a great opportunity for us to think, what can we expect from the year ahead?

Well, you’ll be pleased to know that there’s a special test online (I found it through Google so it must be correct) that will predict your future. All you need to answer is 10 easy questions. Questions like:

  • Do people your own age ask you questions
  • Have you ever won a prize
  • Do you want to be famous

Then it tells you your future. Hold on to your seats because I’m about to tell you my future… Are you ready? After filling out the survey my future is this:

“I am a Millionaire. I will make a hundred thousand dollars a year. I will live in a small mansion about 9,000 sq ft. I will have 3 kids. My cars are a Range Rover/ Lamborghini/Aston Martin.
I will die at 60 from smoking and drinking too much alcohol.”

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind the first part of the prediction but the end is a little depressing… especially considering I don’t smoke or drink alcohol so it seems like I’ve got a lot to do in my next 20 years!

Wouldn’t it be great to know what 2018 will hold? You’d be able to prepare yourself for what lies ahead. You might be able to make some wiser decisions to save some on-coming pain.

But the truth is, we don’t know what the future will hold. The coming year is still a mystery to us… to a degree!

I can’t tell you how much money you will earn, what kind of mansion you are destined to live in or what kind of cars you will drive. But there is 1 thing you can expect for the coming year…

No matter what happens, with all the highs and all the lows that will come our way, God is with you. He is faithful and promises to be with us, no matter what is going on in our lives. And he reminds us again and again in the Bible.

God said to Joshua:
Joshua 1:9 Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

He says through Isaiah:
Isaiah 43:2 When you go through deep waters, I will be with you.

We’re reminded in the Psalms:
Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

And Jesus Himself said:
Matthew 28:20 And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

We may not know exactly what is coming our way, but one thing we can be assured of, is that God is with us. That you can expect.

Lord God, you are faithful. You love us and care for us and are always there for us. We dedicate our year to You, Lord. We commit to worshipping You through all the joy and all the trials. May we be as faithful to You as You are to us. We pray this in Your mighty name, Amen.

What can you expect for the year ahead?
