The Group Fitness Instructor

The instructors always make the moves look so easy.

Explore: Have you ever done a group aerobics class before?

As someone who is acceptably coordinated but not very creative, I love this style of fitness as it’s like instructive dance. It takes a little while to learn the moves, but I can usually pick up the repetitive steps.

The instructors are always brilliant and make the moves look so easy. The skill level across the rest of the room varies greatly.

There are those who are more interested in looking funky than getting the moves correct. Then there are the musically challenged who are trying their best but always seem to be a beat or two behind everyone else.

I like to get the routine as exact as possible. I look for details to make sure I’m using the correct foot and the exact hand movement at the right time.

At times the session is so full that it’s difficult to see the group fitness instructor. That’s when I look for someone in the group who seems as good as the instructor. They may not be leading the class but they’ve got the moves down perfectly.

If I’m ever in a bad position and can’t see what the instructor is doing I look to that participant and find I can follow them too.

Application: I’m never going to be a group fitness instructor, but I always hoped I could be a participant who followed the instructor well enough that others could follow me too.

This is what Paul strived for in his faith life.

Jesus is the ultimate instructor. He got all the moves right and showed us the best way to live.

The call on us is that we reflect Jesus’ life so closely that others could look to us to know how to live a Godly life too.

Our ultimate instructor is Jesus, but it’s great we can have other people in our lives to observe and help us to know how to live like Jesus too.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the incredible example You have given us. Thank You for all the people in our lives who help us to see how we should live too. Amen.

Who helps you see how to live a Godly life?
