A Fulfilling Breakfast

Where does bread come from?

1 Corinthians 11:2-16

Reference: “For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭11:12‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Explore: I have recently been explaining to our three and a half year old how God is involved in everything.

At breakfast he saw the picture of the cow on the milk. As he knew milk came from the cows he looked around and asked me where the bread came from.

I explained that bread is made from wheat, wheat grows in the ground at the farms and God makes the wheat grow. So bread comes from God.

He asked me where the jam came from. I explained that jam is made from fruit, fruit grows on trees at the orchards and God makes the fruit grow. So jam comes from God.

He quickly picked up where this was going. We went through a number of other items, all with the same result. I explained that this is why we say grace before a meal because we are so thankful to God for providing everything for us.

Application: 1 Corinthians reminds us that everything comes from God. We can quibble about who is first and who deserves the best, but ultimately it all comes back to God.

When we are reminded of this fact then it puts our ownership into perspective. Instead of being possessive and controlling of what we have we should hold it loosely, knowing it all comes from God anyway.

May this be a reminder for us to be thankful to God for all He has done and given to us. And may we generously give to others as God has given to us.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the blessings You have given to us. May we be generous with all You have shared with us. Amen.

What has God given to you?
