My friend had remembered more than me.

Explore: An old school friend has recently connected with me through social media. We had gone to boarding school together and, although she was a year older than me, we had played the same instrument in the orchestra and got to know each other well.
I remember our time together being fun. My old friend had a great sense of humour and we had many laughs as we spent time at band practice and at the boarding house.
My friend had remembered more than me. In the message she recently sent me she wrote:
I remember fondly the time I went home with you for a long weekend to your family home and how generous your parents were.
I vaguely remembered her coming home with me but couldn’t recall the detail. I don’t remember how my parents were generous but it wouldn’t surprise me; they always went out of their way for my friends.
While I had forgotten about it, it seems my old friend had remembered and it had had quite an impact on her.
Application: We can never underestimate the impact our actions can have. I only really consider the impact my parents have on me, but their influence has had a much further reach.
When I read about Moses’ father-in-law hearing about Israel’s escape from Egypt I realised this story of God’s provision had spread beyond the Israelites. It had not just had an impact on God’s people but had the potential to impact anyone who heard what had happened.
In our current world of the internet, word can spread far and wide. What kind of story are people receiving from your life? For you can never know the full impact a good deed can have.
Prayer: Lord, it is our lives that speak of your love and grace. May they reflect You in what we do and how we interact with all people. Amen.
What kind of story are people receiving from your life?
