Without Power

We had to go without power today. As part of our new renovations they had to disconnect our power for a short period of time.

I was not too worried about this. I’d just fed our baby and didn’t think I would need power for a while anyway.

That was before it was gone!

Once I actually had no power it made me realise how much power I really do use on a regular basis. The baby had gone down to sleep so now was my time to get everything done around the house.

I’ll put on a load of washing… no, can’t do that.
I’ll quickly run the vacuum over the floor… no, can’t do that.
I’ll just upload my blogs to my webpage… no, can’t do that.

Well, if I can’t do all those things then I may as well just sit down with my feet up and watch some tv… no, can’t do that!!!

When the power is always there I take it for granted. I forget how much power I actually use everyday and how much I really rely on it.

God is like the power in my life. I grew up with God in my family and so I’ve never really known a time when He wasn’t there. And yet there have been times when I’ve felt I can go off and do things all on my own. It’s not until I walk alone that I realise how much I had actually relied on God being there for me all the time. And how little I can do in my own strength.

God should be the power in our lives. Let’s not take Him for granted and let’s always rely on Him because He’s never turned off.

Lord, thank you for always being there for me. While I may walk away and do my own thing, you are always there for me when I need you. Amen.

How much is God the power in your life?
