When You’re Smiling

There are some days when I realize I really can’t complain

Psalm 56:1-13

Reference: v.2 My adversaries pursue me all day long; in their pride many are attacking me. (TNIV Bible)

Explore: Today is a good day for me.  The sun is shining, I’m happy in my work, I’ve recently caught up with good friends and I’m blessed with an amazing family.  There are some days when I realize I really can’t complain… and have no desire to do so.  It was on days like this when my mother used to sing me the Louis Armstrong song: “When you’re smiling, when you’re smiling, The whole world smiles with you.”

Application: It’s great having days that make you smile, however when I read the verses of Psalm 56 it reminds me that other people may not be feeling the same as I am.  While its great for me to share my happiness and smiles with the world it is also important for me to be understanding when others are going through different circumstances to me.  It is not difficult for me to think back to a time when I didn’t feel that the world was smiling with me and I can quickly recall the feelings and expressions that came with that time.  Today is a great day for me and so what a great chance for me to take the time to help someone else who may be struggling.

Prayer: Lord, your creation is wide and diverse.  We can never assume someone is feeling the same as we are.  Help us to have Your heart and care for those who are struggling.  Amen.
