I got up super early this morning. The house was still all dark and cold when I rose from my bed. I moved around quietly, trying not to wake anyone else who was still sleeping.
Any noise seemed to be amplified in the silence of the rest of the world. But my movements didn’t seem to disturb those still heavy in slumber.
I left the house just as the sky was starting to lighten. It felt like I was the only person awake in the whole world.
But then I noticed something lying on the ground of my neighbour’s driveway. The newspaper was already there waiting for them. How long had it been there?
While I had felt like I was the only person creeping around the house as everyone slept, someone was already at work delivering the papers.
Often there are times when we feel alone. Like no one else is out there or would understand what we’re going through. The whole world is silent while we are moving around.
But the newspaper reminds me we are not alone. There are people who have gone before us, who have prepared the way for us to be all we have been created to be.
Reading the Bible reminds me of this too. There are so many stories of people who have gone before us. They have struggled with life and called out to God. And He has been there.
Never forget that you are not alone.
Lord, thank You for sharing the stories of those who have gone before us. We can hear of Your grace and Your power throughout all the ages. Amen.
When have you felt you’re all alone?
