The Good Crockery
However the occasions seem to be so special that I have only ever used the set once or twice.
Reference: v.7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people (TNIV Bible)
Explore: I have a special set of crockery. It was my wedding present from my parents and it’s a beautiful collection of plates and bowls with a gold rim. This set of crockery is so precious that I keep it in a cupboard high above our fridge and it only comes out on special occasions. However the occasions seem to be so special that I have only ever used the set once or twice. In fact, when we moved house our foster daughter, who had lived with us for two years at the time, asked if the crockery was new! Sure, it was still in mint condition however it just went to show how rarely we use it.
Application: If I think of all the meals we have had in our house there have been many special occasions. Not special in that we had honored guests sitting amongst us but special in that my daughter told us a good mark she got at school, special when my husband had his contract renewed and special when we all laughed at some crazy antic that happened in my work place. While I would not have thought these meals warranted the ‘good crockery’ to be used, in actual fact they were very special moments. So often we hold back with our precious possessions until it is an extra special moment however we are reminded that every moment of every day is a chance when we can serve God. It’s not just when we are at church that we can serve him but when we’re at work, at the supermarket or talking a stroll around the neighbourhood. God doesn’t give us gifts just to use for extra special moments but opens up opportunities where we can serve Him every single day.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, You have given us many wonderful things. May we use them everyday to serve You. Amen.
How could you serve God today?
