Visiting Nepal was on his bucket list.
Reference: “Israel said to Joseph, “I never expected to see your face again, and now God has allowed me to see your children too.”” Genesis 48:11 NIV
Explore: I was talking to a friend about my recent work trip to Nepal. He looked at me with wide eyes and started drilling me for all the details.
While I thought he was interested in my work, I soon discovered the reason for all his questions. Visiting Nepal was on his bucket list.
Before he passes away he would like to visit this country and maybe trek some of the Himalayas. After talking to me about the beauty of Nepal I think this dream may have made its way closer to the top of the list!
Application: I am not one to have a bucket list myself, but I can understand why people have a desire to complete certain tasks before they die. We all have goals and dreams and some of them cannot be accomplished in the short-term.
The challenge with a bucket list is that we never really know when our life will come to an end. We also do not know everything life will throw our way.
Jacob didn’t think he would ever see his son Joseph again. Before he died, however, he found before him not just his son Joseph, but also his grandsons.
It is nice to have dreams and goals for the future, but we need to hold them all lightly as we never fully know what our whole lives will hold. And let us make sure that truly important accomplishments are not left sitting on a bucket list but become a priority for us to fulfil in the near future.
Prayer: Lord, we place our future in Your hands. May every day we have left be used to bless Your name. Amen.
What are your plans and dreams for the future?
