Tangled

This is a story of Rapunzel, a beautiful young girl with magical long hair

Psalm 55:1-23

Reference: v.21
His talk is smooth as butter,
yet war is in his heart;
his words are more soothing than oil,
yet they are drawn swords. (TNIV Bible)

Explore: I recently went to see the animated Disney movie of Tangled .  This is a story of Rapunzel, a beautiful young girl with magical long hair, who is kidnapped and trapped in a tall tower by Mother Gothel.  Mother Gothel pretends to be Rapunzel’s mother but really only loves her because her magical hair keeps Gothel young.  It’s interesting that throughout the movie Mother Gothel talks to Rapunzel with loving words, however when her true feelings come out she is harsh and thoughtless.

Application: Words can be very powerful, but only if they are spoken from the heart.  If words are espoused but have no meaning behind them then they are like stale air.  But if you know someone truly means what they say then they can be truly significant.  When we speak to each other its important that we speak words that have meaning and significant, and to do so we must have hearts that are honest and loving.  When we get our hearts right then our words will be spoken with more integrity.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for speaking words of hope and redemption over my life.  May my heart be set right so that I can speak love and honesty into other people’s lives.  Amen.

Who can you share words of love to today?
