Small Beginnings

Linda is currently on maternity leave. Here is one of her most popular posts from the Psalms.

Every downpour is just a raindrop

Psalm 26:1-12

Reference: “I lead a blameless life; deliver me and be merciful to me.” ‭Psalm‬ ‭26:11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Explore: “Things great have small beginnings. Every downpour is just a raindrop; every fire is just a spark; every harvest is just a seed; every journey is just a step because without that step there will be no journey; without that raindrop there can be no shower; without that seed there can be no harvest.”

What powerful words from William Wilberforce. Such an incredible man who made many significant changes in our world, and yet he knew the importance of starting small.

Application: When I was reading Psalm 26 I marvelled at the dedication of the writer. He spoke of his dedication to God and the blameless life he led.

I look at my life and I’m not sure I could be so confident. But then I’m reminded of William Wilberforce’s words and realise we all need to start somewhere.

The greatest evangelist started out with one word; the greatest missionary started out with one action; and the greatest Christian started out with one love.

That’s all we need to do – one word, one action, one love. And that will indeed change our lives and change the world.

Prayer: Lord, may I just take one step at a time, one day at a time, in dedication to You. Amen.

What small act can you do today?
