Removing Weeds

With the removal of all plant species, spraying chemicals and laying matting down it seemed that there was no way that weeds were ever going to be found in my front yard.

Luke 9:1-62

Reference: v.9  But Herod said, “I beheaded John.  Who, then, is this I hear such things about?” And he tried to see him. (NIV Bible)

Explore: When landscaping the front of our house we did everything to keep the weeds away.  I went through the whole front yard and pulled all the weeds out, trying my best to bring their complete root system up with them.  Cameron sprayed the ground with weed killer and then, before we put down mulch, we laid weed matting over the whole front yard.  With the removal of all plant species, spraying chemicals and laying matting down it seemed that there was no way that weeds were ever going to be found in my front yard.  I wish!  It only took a couple of weeks before those pesky little weeds started showing their ugly heads again.  And so every week or so I head outside and pick all the weeds from my front yard so they wont over take my beautiful garden beds.

Application: It seemed like King Herod could not get rid of John the Baptist.  He had John jailed and then executed at yet he was still hearing his name being mentioned.  What more could he do to get John the Baptist out of his life?  John was like a weed that would never go away.  The great thing about God is that He is also like a weed that will never go away.  He will always be there and will keep popping up in the most unusual places.  We can not go anywhere without Him being present.  The weeds in my garden are such a pain.  However, knowing that God is always going to pop up in my life is a great assurance that gives me hope for the future.

Prayer: Lord, I need you in my life everyday.  May I notice when you pop up and may I not try to take You out of my life.  Amen.

When has God popped up in your life unexpectedly?
