Lots of people offered to help, which was great, but there was one family who astonished me with their generosity.
Reference: v.19 Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before the Lord when you heard what I have spoken against this place and its people—that they would become a curse and be laid waste—and because you tore your robes and wept in my presence, I also have heard you, declares the Lord. (TNIV Bible)
Explore: A month ago I threw a party for my husband. We opened up our house to a whole group of our friends and I decided that I would do the catering myself. Lots of people offered to help, which was great, but there was one family who astonished me with their generosity. They said that they’d bring a slice and yet when they arrived they brought in an esky full of slices, honey joys and ice-cream sandwiches. It was unbelievable… and yet it wasn’t! Every time these friends of ours come over they always bring food to share and they are always putting their hands up to help. While this large offering of party food was incredibly generous it was also in line with all their other acts of generosity from the past.
Application: When God sent His son to save the world from its sin it was an incredibly generous act. However, it was in line with God’s generosity that He had been showing for thousands of years. He had been offering His grace over and over again to people who did not deserve it, and He continues to do that today. None of us are worthy of God’s love and forgiveness but He offers it to us anyway. He has been doing it for thousands of years and will continue to over grace to us no matter what we may do.
Prayer: Lord, we will never be able to understand your generosity but we are humbled to receive it. Thank you. Amen.
What gift from God do you continually receive?
