A special machine came along our road today to highlight the lines on the side and in the middle of the road. The lines had already been put there years ago but had started to fade.
This machine, with special paint, copied the same design of the already existing lines but just made them brighter.
When I thought about it, this is what God asks us to do. Let me explain.
Jesus came two thousand years ago and showed us how to live. He lived the perfect life, made the ultimate sacrifice and rose again to save us from our sins. There is nothing we can do to make that act more complete.
But we all have a calling as Christians and followers of Jesus. Our calling is to highlight the work that Jesus did so others will know that he died for them and lives today. All we have to do is copy the way Jesus lived, to highlight His life, and people will be drawn to Him.
I watched the gentleman driver as he manoeuvred the vehicle over the existing lines. He didn’t see me because he was concentrating so much. If you took his eyes off the already existing line he would soon wander astray and create a whole new line of his own. That would not be helpful for those on the road and those trying to follow the road guidelines.
We also need to stay vigilant. It’s so easy to get lazy and gradually veer off the path that Jesus set us. And when we do it may take a while before we realise that our path is not His path. In fact, it can totally change our end destination.
Let’s not stray far from Jesus. He lived a life worthy of being followed.
Lord, You Are glorious and gracious all at once. Help us to follow Your path and live for You so that others may know Your love for them. Amen.
How closely are you following Jesus’ path?
