New iPhone

This new phone has changed the way I work so much that I wonder how I ever survived without it.

Hebrews 8:1-13

Reference: v.13 By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear. (NIV Bible)

Explore: I was recently in need of a new phone.  Although I’d only had my old phone for 18 months it was already starting to show signs of wear and tear.  It was becoming slower and sometimes I would press buttons and nothing would happen.  I was disappointed that it hadn’t lasted longer for me but it was starting to really annoy me when I wasn’t able to do what I needed.  When looking for a new phone my mind was immediately drawn to the iPhone.  It was going to allow me to combine my phone and my diary all in one – as well as a few added extras that were nice too!  I’m not really into gadgets all that much but I couldn’t wait to get my new phone.  I tried to wait until the very end of my old contract but with still a month to go I couldn’t wait any more and went to the shops to get it.  And the iPhone has not disappointed me.  This new phone has changed the way I work so much that I wonder how I ever survived without it.

Application: That’s often the way it is when we get something new.  If we really appreciate the new item then we wonder how we lived without it.  When Jesus came to earth he brought a new covenant for the people.  This was a new way to live, a new way to worship and a new way to know God.  We are able to live in this new covenant because Jesus paid the price for us.  We don’t have to feel locked into an old contract or an old way of living.  Jesus has freely offered us this grace, love and an opportunity at eternal life.  He has paid the price and once we accept his forgiveness we will wonder how we ever lived without it.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for paying the price and ushering in a new covenant.  You have opened the way for us to personally connect with God.  Thank you.  Amen.

How does this new covenant – this faith through Jesus – change your life?
