Never Been Born

I was excited to see that my friend had messaged me to let me know that she had given birth to a baby girl.

Job 3:1-26

Reference:  v.23 Why is life given to a man whose way is hidden, whom God has hedged in? (TNIV Bible)

Explore:  Last month I was driving to work when I received a text message on my phone.  Receiving a text message is a common occurrence for me but seeing I drive to work at 4.30 in the morning it was very strange to receive one at that time.  I was excited to see that my friend had messaged me to let me know that she had given birth to a baby girl.  Even though it was still classified as the middle of the night for most people my friend was still marvelling at this amazing little person who was now in the world.

Application:  The birth of a baby is incredibly exciting.  Having not had one myself I can only speak as an on-looker, however the wonder and awe that I have seen in parent's eyes is wonderful.  We never know how life is going to turn out for the babies.  Our hopes and prayers is that they will succeed in all they do, however only time can tell how their journey will pan out.  When Job went through a devastating time in his life he wished that he had never been born.  His parents would never have predicted, and certainly not hoped, that he would reach such a low.  We've all had days when we feel like we hit rock bottom, and maybe even think the same as Job.  I find it comforting to know that I am not a bad person for having difficult times.  Job was a righteous man and followed God faithfully, and yet disaster still came his way.  Loving God does not make us perfect, or bullet proof.   But just like Job we must persevere and believe that God will carry us through to the end of the journey.

Prayer:  Lord, there are times when we feel like we are in a very dark place.  May we keep our focus on You and live in the hope that You will carry us through. Amen.

What are some of the hopes you have for your future?
