My Vow To You

No matter which vows the couple chooses it all comes down to the same thing

Psalm 56:1-13

Reference: “I am under vows to you, my God; I will present my thank offerings to you.” ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭56:12‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Explore: I am fortunate enough to be able to officiate at weddings. It’s a great honour and privilege to play a part in a couple’s special day.

To assist them write their vows I have a document filled with wording suggestions. It’s actually an incredibly long document as there are so many different ways to share your vows. The couple can either write their own, pick one of the examples or do a combination of both.

No matter which vows the couple chooses it all comes down to the same thing. They may use different words, but every couple is proclaiming their love and commitment to each other through their vows.

Application: In Psalm 56, David says he is under a vow to God. Now he was God’s chosen king so there would have been vows and ceremonies that went with that tradition.

However, if we declare ourselves a Christian, we are all under a vow to God. In proclaiming ourselves a Christian we are saying we are committed and dedicated to live as Christ lived.

That’s a pretty major vow for us to make. It’s not one we should enter into lightly.  It’s the most important vow we can ever keep.

There are times when I even think of my faith as something I could give away, as many of my friends have done.

But that’s not a decision to make lightly when you consider the vow we have made when we follow Christ.

Prayer: Lord, You have committed wholly to us, may we do the same in return. May we cherish You and love You as You have done for us. Amen.

How can you show your commitment to God today?
