Impossible Questions

Which ever way I look at it, this seems an impossible question.

Deuteronomy 29:1-29

Reference:  v.29  The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.  (NIV Bible)

Explore:  If God can do everything can He create a rock so heavy that even He can't lift it?  Hmmm, this is a tricky question.  On the one hand I believe that God can create all things and so, yes He could create an incredibly heavy rock.  But on the other hand I believe that God can do all things so there would not be a rock that He can't lift.  Whichever way I look at it, this seems an impossible question.  While God creating a heavy rock isn't all that important, there are other questions we have in our lives that can seem just as baffling.  Why does God allow faithful people to get cancer?  How can God really listen to my prayers when other people are praying at exactly the same time?  Does God really know what's going to happen in the future, and if so where does my free will come in to that?

Application:  I'm sure you can think of many other mysteries of God.  Some of these questions are important for us to explore and yet we all sit with the understanding that God is so great that we will never be able to fully comprehend Him.  There are 'secret things that belong to the Lord' and our human brains will never be able to get around them.  On the one hand this can be frustrating for those of us who like to know all the details.  On the other hand this is refreshing to know that the God we worship has more power, more knowledge, more strength, and more love and that we will never reach it's end.

Prayer:  Lord, you are beyond our understanding.  But You have shown us again and again that You love us so much.  May we live in that understanding.  Amen.

What is a question about God that you struggle to comprehend?
