I Love Emails

I know that you are automatically putting me in the 'geek' box right now, but don't be too hasty!

Jeremiah 33:1-26

Reference:  v.3 'Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.' (NIV Bible)

Explore:  I think I may be addicted to emails.  I know that you are automatically putting me in the 'geek' box right now, but don't be too hasty!  I am really not that savvy with technology.  I don't know how to back up my computer, I can't program a VCR and I only ever use my mobile phone to make phone calls or text messages.  It's not so much the technology side of emails that I love but it's the instant messaging that I adore.  If I need to get a message off to someone I just need to tap on my keyboard and send them an email.  As soon as I hit that 'SEND' button my task is complete and it is in the other person's inbox to respond.  One thing that really frustrates me though, is if someone takes ages to get back to me.  Clearly other people are not as savvy with their emails as I am… and they probably have greater things to do in their life than sit at their computer responding to my messages.  But I get so impatient waiting for people to respond.

Application:  I think that sometimes I transfer my desire for instant answers over into my faith.  You see today I have just spent four hours in prayer and fasting to God.  The email-loving side of me would appreciate if God answered all my prayers within those four hours.  I mean, He knows the answers already He just needs to communicate them to me, right?  And then I read verse 3 of Jeremiah chapter 33 and think, 'Well, I'm calling out to you God.  Now it's Your turn to get back to me.'  However, I'm not sure that's quite the 'messaging system' that God has in mind.  From previous experience of prayer I know that God will answer me… just not straight away.  He does love me, He is faithful and He does have plans for me, however He does not respond to me like I respond to emails.  He knows the timing that is best for me and will do what He knows is best for me.  If you 'call out to God' believe that He will answer.  It may be in a time frame that tests your patience, but He will answer you 'and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.'

Prayer:  Lord, thank you that we can trust in You.  We may not understand everything that You do, but we believe that You are true to Your word and You will answer us when we call.  Amen.

What is it that you want to 'call out to God'?
