Good Connections

To have a good connection with someone you need to find a point of similarity.

John 2:1-12

Reference: “What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.” ‭‭John‬ ‭2:11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Explore: Although our two-year-old isn’t biologically ours, I have found that raising a child has helped me speak to other mothers on the same level. I can talk about sleeping struggles,  not eating vegetables and throwing tantrums like the best of them.

I also find that mothers who spend all day at home with their children struggle to find other topics to chat about.

So I’ll often start at the level of their children before extending out to any broader conversations I may have about work or current events.

To have a good connection with someone you need to find a point of similarity.

Application: Jesus had an incredible ability to connect with everyday people. His first miracle is a great example of that.

Changing water into wine may not have been viewed in the same miraculous caliber as healing the sick or multiplying food, but Jesus was presented with a need at the time and it had a great influence on those He was around.

When we are connecting with people we are around it may not be too helpful to start with the intricacies of our faith. While we may live it and breath it around our churchie friends, it may not be where our colleagues, friends or family members are at.

Find a connection into their lives and you will soon discover that others will want to connect with what is important in your life.

Prayer: Lord, may I listen well to others so that I can find positive connections into their lives. May I live in such a way that others are keen to connect in with me and therefore open to connecting with You. Amen.
