Give His Love Away

Taking on more foster children was not necessarily part of the plan for us.

Matthew 21:18-46

Reference: v.29 “‘I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went. (TNIV Bible)

Explore: My husband and I have been foster carers for over five years now.  While we have been truly blessed to have our daughter, Joy, in our lives, we started thinking about extending our family some more.

Taking on more foster children was not necessarily part of the plan for us. It actually came about when my work placement changed and I got thinking about the impact I could have on my world.

While I have always loved my career paths, I felt that having a child in need living in our home would have a greater life-changing impact.

Another thing that helped me to be swayed towards fostering some more children was The Kingdom’s song, ‘Love Away’. The lyrics go like this:

Well it’s not love ‘til you give it away
It’s not life ‘til you live in His name
So take another good look around
Cos you’ve got more to give and

He gave everything for love
He gave everything for love
So give His love away

For me to just say that I want to help others isn’t actually love. It’s not until I put it into action that it actually becomes real love.

Application: Jesus explained the importance of our actions when He spoke about a father and his two sons. He asked both sons to help him.

The first said ‘no,’ but ended up helping out. The second said ‘yes,’ but ended up doing nothing. Which one was obedient? The first, of course.

Our words are important, but our actions speak louder. A way for me to truly share God’s love is not just to say, I’m a foster carer, but to invite someone into my home and give ‘His love away’.

Prayer: Lord, with obedience often comes sacrifice and pain. Thank you for giving me the ultimate sacrifice so that I can show Your love to others. Amen.

How can you give His love away today?
