My son is not a terrible sleeper but he’s not a great one either. I feel like my whole day revolves around preparing him for his next sleep. When it’s time for a nap I try to prepare him perfectly so there’s no reason why he shouldn’t just nod off.
I make sure he’s well fed, has a clean nappy, exhausted from physical activity, the room is the right temperature, the light is conducive to sleeping and the white noise is blocking out any interruptions. All this planning and yet he still rolls around in his cot! I can try my best and yet I can’t force him to close his eyes and sleep.
It can be exhausting and disappointing but I know it’s the best thing for my son to get sleep. So I keep trying.
This is how I often feel when it comes to evangelism. We can connect to the right people, invite them to the right events, make our worship seeker friendly, and live our lives so they know who Jesus is and how He wants us to live. But when it’s all said and done, we can’t force them to commit their hearts to Christ. All we can do is our best in preparing that the environment is right if they do choose to follow Him.
It can be exhausting and disappointing but we know it’s the best thing we can do for those we love. So keep trying!
Lord, you know those who are on my heart. I know they need You in their lives. Prepare their hearts Lord, so they are open to You. Amen.
Who are you wanting to introduce to Jesus? How are you helping to prepare the way?
