Cooking Books

I have a friend who loves cooking books and magazines. At the end of a hard day she loves nothing more than sitting on her couch, drink in hand, flicking through the latest cookbook she’s acquired.

She has so many books and magazines that explain the art of many different cuisines. I imagine she has a whole room in her house designated as the library and all the shelves are just lined with cookbooks!

The unusual thing about my friend though is that she hates cooking! That’s right, she really can’t stand being in the kitchen. Although she would have to be one of the most well read people on the planet in regards to recipes, very rarely does she end up cooking any of the delights that she reads about.

While I have to laugh at the craziness of my friend I am also reminded that this is often how Christians live their lives. They know God, they may even read books about God, they have friends who love God and they attend events and services that talk about God. But when it comes to actually living out what God has called them to do, they’re not interested.

They end up missing the most important part, actually living like God. And we have to be careful that we don’t end up the same way. It’s so easy to know lots about faith but when it comes to actually living it out it can all seem too hard.

The greatest results come when we step out in faith, make Godly decisions and work towards bearing fruit for Him.

Lord, lead us in Your way. Teach us when we fail and help us to carry on our journey with You. Amen.

How are you going with living out your faith?
