I remember this always seemed like a daunting task.
Reference: “Meanwhile a prophet came to Ahab king of Israel and announced, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Do you see this vast army? I will give it into your hand today, and then you will know that I am the Lord.’ ”” 1 Kings 20:13 NIV
Explore: In the later years of high school the teachers of each class sit all their students down and tell them all the work they need to complete by the end of the year. I remember this always seemed like a daunting task.
No matter how nicely they said it or how supportive the teacher was, I always looked at the list of tasks and felt overwhelmed. By the end of the week, when we had heard the assessment tasks of all the classes, the year ahead actually seemed impossible!
But, step by step, class by class, task by task the assessment was all complete by the end of the year. Looking back over the year I could see how it all gradually happened and how the teachers had spaced the assessments out and supported us through.
Application: Even though I am many years past high school now I still have huge tasks that come my way. When I look ahead at them they seem huge and insurmountable.
But I have the greatest teacher in my life who knows my future inside out and is willing to be with me every step of the way. He knows all things, created all things and understands everything about me.
In 1 Kings 20 Ahab was facing a huge task. There was a mighty army on his door step and he knew how much bigger, stronger and more powerful they were than his army.
But God is bigger than any challenge we have here on earth. He is the biggest, the strongest and the most powerful. And He showed Ahab by allowing him to defeat this mighty army.
If you have a daunting task ahead, read the chapters around 1 Kings 20. Back to back God shows His power and might for those who love Him.
Yes, the road ahead can still feel daunting for us when we see the large tasks ahead. But let us not forget that we have the greatest teacher, leader, ruler, and God by our side.
Prayer: Lord, give us the courage to move towards You and we tackle each task ahead of us. Amen.
What mighty task do you need to put before God today?
