Christmas Stockings are bags of anticipation.
As a child I remember putting mine by the chimney on Christmas Eve and struggling to get to sleep knowing that in the morning the stocking would be filled.
In the morning it would only take me 15 minutes to empty the stocking and rip open all the gifts. In no time at all the Stocking was empty.
While I no longer put a stocking out on Christmas Eve, there are lots of points in my life that I put myself out, hoping to be filled.
When I’m at work I put myself out, hoping my work will fulfil all my needs.
At home I constantly put myself out trying to be the best mother and wife I can be. And yet, it often leaves me exhausted and empty.
There are many tantalising things in this world that promise to fill our lives, but nothing can truly fill us up like God’s love. At Christmas we’re reminded of His love that is so deep, it can never leave us empty.
