Today we had some cement poured on our property. As we’re building an extension they have put a slab down in order to build the frame. It was with much excitement that our four year old watched the pink cement mixer arrive at our home.
I’ve had cement splattered on my car before. It was not a good situation. It dried so quickly that when the cement was washed away it took some of the paint with it. On that day I was not happy with cement!
Today, as the cement was poured to create our slab, I was very happy. It means our extension is progressing and we will soon have some new rooms added to our house. I can’t say I was as excited as our four year old, but I was pleased.
It’s interesting that the same thing can bring happiness or sadness. Used in the wrong way, in the wrong place, cement can bring negative emotions. Used in the right way in the right place, however, it can bring joy.
We are the same. If we use our gifts in the wrong way we can impact others in a negative way. But if we use them in the right way then they can not only please others but also bring honour to God.
The choice is up to us. We all have gifts and abilities, it’s just a matter of how we use them that will impact our world.
Lord, thank You for blessing us all with different abilities. May we use them to build people up instead of tearing people down. Amen.
How are you using your gifts?
