Hi! Thanks for reading my REAP articles.
I’m currently on holidays at the moment so thought I would do something slightly different.
There have been numerous people who have had a big impact on me this past year. I once read a blog that said we should name the people who have influenced us as a way of saying 'thank you'. I can't remember who that was, so I can't thank them specifically! However, I would like to honour just five people who I do remember that have had a positive impact on me this year. Cameron Bailey There was no way that I could write about a group of people who have had a positive impact on me this year and not include my husband. It continually amazes me how generous and encouraging Cameron really is. I can confidently say that being married to Cam makes me a better person. Cameron's desire for comedic conversation is certainly his most obvious feature. He is not afraid to step over the line to initiate laughter. To be the butt of jokes is never his fear and he is more than likely to take the micky out of himself to incite the desired funny affect. He is my favourite audience as he will laugh at all my dumb jokes and silly expressions. He will occasionally allow me to get the better of him in a slinging match but will only laugh at me as I clap my hands together, giving myself a congratulatory 'self-high-five'. He has such a strong self-confidence and he does all that he can to try to boost my self-esteem too. Through his constant affirmation and compliments he encourages me to be so much braver than I ever thought I could be.
When we moved to our new area to plant a congregation we went to a community event for our local council. The Mayor was present, acting in an official capacity, and Cam just lent over to me and said, 'You should go over and introduce yourself to her.' My instant internal reaction was, "NO WAY!" The idea of going over and speaking to someone important did not even cross my mind. But because Cameron had suggested it, I knew that he had confidence that I could do it and so over I went. That conversation ended up leading me to a few other important contacts within the local council. Cameron is incredibly generous with his time, money and resources. He would jump in the car and travel all over the city if he knew that it would help me out. He is often willing to stay up late to design a form for me or to fix my website. Cam would spend all of his day off helping out a mate and would give the shirt off his back if he thought that someone would be better off with it. (Note: If you are ever thinking of asking Cam for his shirt, just know that it will probably be a little bit sweaty – even in Winter – and it definitely will not be ironed!!) Even on my very ugly days, Cam is always there to tell me that I'm beautiful and wonderful. This is sometimes hard to hear but Cam is very persistent. He would never be a writer for Hallmark cards but he just tells it how he sees it. He just wishes that I would see myself as he sees me. However, just incase you are thinking that Cam is all just love and roses, that's not the case. Just so I do not portray him to be too soppy I will say that if I'm ever in need of some critical feedback, Camer […]
