Now that he’d told me the ending I guess I didn’t need to go to see it!
Reference: “My soul is in deep anguish. How long, Lord, how long?” Psalm 6:3 NIV
Explore: Today I was talking to my colleague about movies. He was telling me about one he saw that was currently at the cinemas.
I hadn’t seen it yet and even though it had received mixed reviews I was still keen to go to see it. I had read that it was a little controversial.
“Because he dies in the end?” my colleague asked.
I explained that that wasn’t exactly what the article had said, but now that he’d told me the ending I guess I didn’t need to go to see it! I hate spoilers and my colleague had accidentally let a big one out of the bag. At least it had saved me $20 at the movies!!
Application: When it comes to popular movies and books it’s hard to stay away from spoilers. There’s always someone who knows the ending and is keen to share it with others, whether you want them to or not!
I find life is not always very forthcoming with spoilers however. While I hate spoilers for books and movies, sometimes I wouldn’t mind knowing what is going to happen in my life.
A little hint here or a suggestion there might help to prepare me for what is around the corner. But that’s not really how life works.
It seems life has never really worked like that. In Psalm 6 the writer is in great anguish, not knowing when the turmoil is going to end. We can experience the same thing, even though we’re now living thousands of years later.
The one spoiler I can share with you is this… God loves you. No matter what you’re going through, where you are or what has happened in your past, God loves you.
He will always love you, care for you and give you hope for your future. Let’s hang on to that spoiler with all we have.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for being so loving and consistent, so we can always count on You. When all else seems lost, we will lean on You. Amen.
What situation are you currently going through where you need to be reminded of God’s loving spoiler?
